Debunking Skincare Myths
Ever feel like your skincare routine is a mix of magic potions and old wives’ tales? Does TikTok convince you to buy the latest $100 miracle serum with an ingredients list you can't read? Or maybe you've spent some time Googling if you should wear SPF if the sun isn't out.
This is where we come in! We're your truth buddies here to debunk some common skincare myths and set the record straight, saving you some MOO-lah and your skin. So, let’s dive in and bust these myths wide open!
Myth #1: Expensive products are always better.
Truth: Price doesn’t always equal quality. Many affordable products are packed with effective ingredients in effective amounts. It’s all about reading labels and knowing what works for your skin type. We’re all about only using quality ingredients, and the ones we use must have a specific purpose in the product. We refuse to use cheap filler ingredients that aren’t necessary or have no benefit.
Natural ingredients can cost a bit more coin than their prehistoric synthetic predecessors, but we're OK with that because we like feeling good about the products we make. We also do whatever we can to keep our prices as reasonable as possible. Instead of paying photoshopped celebrities to convince you to use MooGoo, we think our products speak for themselves.
Myth #2: You don't need sunscreen on cloudy days.
Truth: UV rays easily sneak through clouds and cause skin damage. Sunscreen is your best friend, rain, hail or shine! The Zinc Oxide we use in our SPF products provides broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays. We use Zinc because it’s naturally derived, and acts as a reflective umbrella on the skin, reflecting UV rays away. We have a range of SPF products to suit your needs.
Our Cover Up Buttercup SPF 15 Natural Moisturizer (120g), offers SPF 15 protection and is packed with natural oils rich in fatty acids that nourish and hydrate dry skin. For daily use on the face, our SPF 15 Moisturizing Day Cream (75g) includes Clear Zinc and Red Raspberry Seed Oil for natural sun defense, while Antioxidants help maintain youthful skin. Don’t forget your lips - our Edible SPF 15 Lip Balm keeps them soft, hydrated, and protected.
All MooGoo SPF products are designed for use on the face and body and are suitable for all ages, from babies to adults (even newborns!). They can also be used on any skin type, even the most sensitive.
Myth #3: Oily skin doesn't need moisturizer.
Truth: All skin types need moisture. Using a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer can help balance oily skin and keep your skin barrier happy. All of our products including our moisturizers are non-comedogenic. This means they have been formulated not to clog pores, making them perfect for maintaining a clean and balanced complexion.
Myth #4: Drinking water is all you need for hydrated skin.
Truth: While drinking plenty of water is essential for overall health and supports hydration from within, it’s not enough on its own to keep your skin properly hydrated. Hydration starts from the inside, but your skin needs more than just internal moisture.
Topical moisturizers are crucial because they create a barrier on the surface of your skin, locking in moisture and preventing water loss. A good moisturizer helps replenish and retain the moisture your skin needs to stay smooth, soft, and healthy. So, a combination of adequate water intake and the right skincare products is key to achieving and maintaining hydrated, glowing skin.
Myth #5: Scrubbing your face or using active ingredients will fix acne.
Truth: Over-exfoliating (with an abrasive exfoliant or a chemical exfoliant) can actually irritate your skin and make acne worse. Gentle is the way to go, just like our Gentle Exfoliating Micro Powder! This effective exfoliator offers a gentle way to remove dead skin cells and pollutants from your face without causing irritation. Its fine texture allows for a deep yet non-abrasive exfoliation, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
Salicylic Acid works deep within pores, helping to keep acne at bay and preventing future breakouts. The result? A smoother, clearer complexion that radiates health! Plus, it contains Marshmallow Root Extract to soothe the skin, ensuring it stays calm and balanced, making this exfoliant perfect for regular use in your skincare routine.
Myth #6: You can shrink your pores.
Truth: As much as we may want to change our pore size, unfortunately, they're genetic. While you can’t shrink them, you can minimise their appearance by keeping them clean and using products that reduce oil and inflammation.
Myth #7: Tanning beds are totally fine for use.
Truth: Tanning beds = UV radiation = increased risk of skin cancer and premature aging. Stick to self-tanners, like our Natural Tanning range, for that sun-kissed, Euro Summer glow! All our tanning products are free from Parabens and Phenoxyethanol plus, they contain Pro Vitamin B5 and Aloe Vera Leaf Juice. These ingredients help the skin retain moisture and make it the perfect self-tanner for even the most sensitive skin.
Myth #8: Anti-aging products are only for mature skin.
Truth: Starting early with products like sunscreen, antioxidants, and actives can help keep your skin looking youthful and vibrant. While we don't recommend starting your tween on Retinols, our gentle Face Range is a great way to start caring for and protecting their skin.
Myth #9: DIY skincare is safe and effective.
Truth: Some DIY ingredients can irritate or damage your skin. It's best to use products formulated by professionals to avoid damage.
Myth #10: Toothpaste cures pimples.
Truth: Sadly, no. Toothpaste contains ingredients that can irritate and dry out the skin, potentially making acne worse. Use a gentle yet effective acne solution instead, like our 5-star Blemish Buster Set, which is free from harsh ingredients like Bleach,
