Baby Range FAQs

Baby Range FAQs

As parents ourselves, we understand how important it is to be informed and up to date with what ingredients you're putting on your child. So for peace of mind, we've created a little list of all the answers to your MOO-st frequently asked questions!

What is the difference between the products in standard MooGoo packaging vs the Baby & Child packaging?

If we’re being honest, not a lot. Our Baby & Child formulas were specifically designed to be extra gentle for delicate, sensitive, and dry baby skin. But all of our products use ingredients gentle enough to be used on the entire family! We also suggest you always patch test first to check for allergies to any natural ingredients.

Which of your products can I use on my baby or newborn?

While our Baby & Child formulas were specifically designed to be extra gentle for delicate, sensitive, and dry baby skin, all of the ingredients we use in our products are gentle enough for babies and newborns, including our Sun Care. However, we don’t recommend using our Night Restoration Cream or Anti-Aging products on children. We know the best kind of anti-aging is preventive but 6 months might be too soon! We also suggest you always patch test first to check for allergies to any natural ingredients.

Can the Baby & Child range be used on people who aren’t babies?

Our entire Baby & Child range is happy to pamper the whole family! It’s great for toddlers, kids, as well as teenagers and even adults. We know many adults with sensitive skin who opt for the 2-in-1 Bubbly Wash as a facial cleanser. Another sneaky tip! It’s also great for cleaning your make-up brushes. 2 in 1? More like 5 in 1!

How do you recommend applying the Scalp Cream for Cradle Cap?

Gently part bub’s damp hair in a few spots and apply the Scalp Repair Cream directly to the scalp, especially where the skin looks dry or flaky. Leave it on overnight to give the soothing ingredients time to work. In the morning, use a soft brush to gently loosen and lift away any flakes - a sign that fresh, healthy skin is coming through. Rinse with a gentle, natural shampoo like our Baby Gentle Shampoo

How old does my child have to be to use MooGoo Sunscreen?

Our Cover Up Buttercup SPF 15 Natural Moisturizer uses ingredients that are safe for the entire family - even newborns! So you can Slip, Slop, Slap this on bubs of any age, but as always we suggest you patch test first to check for allergies to any natural ingredients.

My baby accidentally ate some of the product, will they be ok?

You’d be surprised but this happens a lot. We don’t recommend using our products as baby food, but if some is ingested you can rest assured that our products are made from natural, edible ingredients.

Will the Shampoo or Bubbly Wash sting my baby's eyes?

Our Baby Gentle Shampoo and 2-in-1 Bubbly Wash are no-tear formulas, so they will be as gentle on your babies’ skin and eyes as you were carrying them out of the hospital.

Is the 2-in-1 Bubbly Wash a chemical-free baby body wash?

Yes! Our 2-in-1 Bubbly Wash formula is a natural baby wash made with 5 different natural cleaners that are milder and more hydrating on the skin. No nonsense and nothing nasty (just lots of bubbles!).

My baby has milk pimples. What can I use to treat this?

For your little one’s milk pimples, we actually recommend our Scalp Repair Cream - it sounds a bit unusual, but it works wonderfully on delicate facial skin too! The cream is packed with gentle, soothing ingredients like Olive Oil and Coconut Oil, which help nourish and hydrate without being harsh. Plus, it contains Aloe Vera and Allantoin, which are fantastic for calming irritated skin and supporting the healing process. Even though it’s designed for the scalp, it’s perfect for those little baby milk pimples. Just apply a small amount to the affected areas, and it should help soothe and clear them up without drying out their skin.

Are your products made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are based on milk. If you think about it, putting any meaningful amount of fresh milk into a cosmetic product and then putting it on a shelf in a store for a while would not end well – yuck! We do use ethically and sustainably sourced Milk Protein from a credible Australian supplier in a some of our skincare and hair care products because research has found that it helps to increase skin elasticity by up to 20%, as well as protects hair fibers and revitalizes hair's natural protective layer.

My child has a milk allergy. Can they use these products?

It's best to avoid products containing Milk Protein. While lactose intolerance affects the ability to digest lactose, a milk allergy involves the immune system reacting to proteins found in milk, like casein and whey. As our moisturizing creams and hair care products with Milk Protein include those proteins, they could potentially trigger an allergic reaction.

We recommend sticking to our baby products that are free of Milk Protein, like our Sensitive Skin Balm, Scalp Repair Cream, Baby Soothing Nut Oil Free Moisturizer and Baby Fast-Absorbing Lotion with Ceramides

Some of your products contain nut oils, if I use this on my baby, will this lead to allergies later on in life?

At MooGoo, we don’t use food ingredients in our therapeutic products. Instead, we focus on using high-quality natural oils, which are different from food items. The natural oils we use, like sweet almond oil, are packed with fatty acids and vitamins that help nourish the skin, but they don’t contain the proteins that trigger food allergies. But we know many people choose to be extra cautious, which is why we made the Soothing Nut Oil Free Moisturizer without nut oils. Instead we use Evening Primrose Oil in this cream to help hydrate and nourish troubled skin.

My child has a nut allergy. Do I need to use nut-free skin care products?

Most allergies to nuts are triggered by nut proteins, not nut oils. But when it comes to allergic reactions many people choose to be extra cautious and avoid anything made with nut oils as well. For that reason, we made the Soothing Nut Oil Free Moisturizer without nut oils to give parents of children with allergies peace of mind. We use Evening Primrose Oil to help hydrate and nourish troubled skin. It’s high in the types of fatty acids that healthy skin needs and irritated skin loves.

What does "Dermatologically Tested" mean?

You may have seen the term “Dermatologically Tested” on lots of products before, but did you know there’s not an actual definition or regulation for this term? Because that didn’t sit right with us, and because our aim is to make products for people with really sensitive skin, we decided to send a bunch of them off to be tested in an independent lab on 54 people who reported having sensitive skin. The results were given on a scale of 0 to 5 with 0 being no irritation or redness and 5 being a reaction. We’re happy to report that other than one person who had a reaction to the adhesive on the patch and another who found the patches painful to remove, all subjects reported 0 for redness and irritation for all the products we sent for testing. To check out the full report and summary of the test we did on this product, click here.

What ingredients do you avoid when making a moisturizer?

There's lots of things you won't find in our products because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. That means no Paraffin or Mineral Oil, which are derived from Petroleum, no synthetic preservatives like Parabens or Phenoxyethanol, and no pointless, trendy fillers. Even though these ingredients are surprisingly common, including in some brands that claim to be natural. And that’s only part of it. We avoid a lot of other things too, way too many to list here. Instead we choose to use natural, effective ingredients because we believe they are the best options.

Can my baby with dry skin use the Baby range?

They absolutely can! We have specifically added some super soothing and hydrating ingredients to our entire Baby & Child range, like Colloidal Rice Bran, which is great for baby dry skin, sensitivities, or irritations.

My Baby has Eczema. How should I treat this?

Eczema can look and feel different for everyone, which is why there is no one-size-fits-all approach. We always recommend seeing your medical practitioner for any advice on Eczema for you and your bub, but we do have some products that could offer some relief. For your Mini Moos delicate skin they need a simple but effective routine, starting with our Bubbly Wash. Dermatologically Tested and Pediatrician Approved, it’s designed for even the most sensitive skin. After cleansing, you can apply the Sensitive Skin Balm. This lightweight balm absorbs quickly and is enriched with natural oils like Sweet Almond and Olive Oil, along with calming Aloe Vera and Centella Asiatica. Finish with the Baby Nut Oil Free Soothing Moisturizer, it contains Evening Primrose Oil and Olive Squalane, keeping the skin soft and hydrated.

How often can I apply your products to my baby?

Our Baby & Child products are all formulated to be kind and gentle on sensitive baby skin, and so you can use these products on your bub as often as you’d like! We do recommend waiting for products to be completely absorbed before applying another product, and always patch testing first to check for allergies to any natural ingredients.

What other MooGoo products do you recommend for sensitive skin?

The short answer? Most of our range is made with sensitive, irritable skin in mind. We know everyone's skin is different but we do have some favourites that are a pretty safe bet for anyone's sensitive skin. Our Ultra Gentle Ceramide Cleanser is our lowest-irritation cleanser available for people with extremely sensitive skin, made to gently clean skin and lock in moisture and strengthen the skin barrier.

Follow that up with one of our many moisturizers, like our Soothing MSM Moisturizer, formulated with organic sulfur for its soothing properties and a range of other healing ingredients.

For scalp specific problems we recommend using our Milk Shampoo and Cream Conditioner to help keep your scalp happy by not stripping the natural oils which can cause dryness and irritation. We even have a very gentle Sensitive & Fragrance-Free Deodorant (although we don’t think bub will need this one), to keep your pits irritant and smell free.
